Event & Class Descriptions:
APP Clinics
These 1.5 hour classes feature unique lesson plans with engaging and challenging activities that give the participants meaningful and helpful learning experiences. Participants will develop advanced golf skills in all parts of the game, as well as learn how to focus, make good decisions, and manage their emotions, ultimately becoming their own best coach. Each class also helps participants develop strategies and skills for setting and achieving their goals and features learning advanced rules and how to use the USGA Rule Book.
APP On Course Player Development Matches
These 3.5 hour classes feature a 45 min. Player Development Clinic/Warm Up followed by 9 holes of competitive team play. During the Clinic, participants work through a series of short game and full swing warm up activities designed to enhance enjoyment, learning, and performance. After the warm up, participants are brought together to review the purpose of the activities, and are given a “playing focus” to help them improve performance and get the most learning possible out of the round. Each participant plays on one of three teams, changed 3 times per year, and they compete in stroke play and match play style events with a season points title on the line. This class is an absolute must for any golfer wanting to play on a golf team in Middle School or High School. Participants also are treated to prizes for winning closest to the pin contests, being on the season’s champion team, best application of playing focus, and many others.
Dan Martin’s APA On Course Challenges – New (Begins in March 2012)
To further develop essential playing skills, Dan Martin has developed a very fun and engaging on course play program. In these unique 9-hole playing sessions, players will be challenged with various rules, playing formats & focuses that will develop creativity, mental toughness & resilience, strategy & good judgment, how to handle pressure, confidence, and many other key traits to be a successful competitive golfer.
APP Academy Challenges
Every other month, a special APP Academy Skills challenge is offered where participants will be tested on their advanced golf skills. This type of class is the main component to moving up in rank in the APP. During the event, each participant will attempt to score as well as possible in these areas: Advanced Putting, Advanced Chipping & Pitching, Ball Striking Accuracy, Trajectory & Curve Control, and Bunker Play. Each separate event is also an opportunity to win prizes. If the participant scores well enough – see APP Academy Challenge Scoring Requirements below – then they will have completed one of the components requirement to move up in rank. Before students can fully move up a level, however, they must also meet scoring requirements during approved local tournaments (US Kids/GAVC/VCJGA/SCPGA) or during APP Golf Team Prep On-Course Player Development Events. (See APP Levels of Achievement Above) Upon completion all the requirements of each level, participants are rewarded with a special GAVC pin commemorating their new level of achievement and they are posted on our APP photo board at Rustic Canyon GC and on our Facebook Page (coming soon!)
Competitive Player Camps
On select weekday school holidays, during Winter Break, Spring Break and during the Summer, we will offer Full Day camps with morning instruction and practice, lunch, and PM Competitive On-Course play. Each day will offer specific camp themes built around the mental/emotional game, short game, or full swing development.
